Tool guide
The text under a video is two things at once: a map for the viewer and the copy YouTube's search reads. Writing it from scratch every upload gets old, so this assembles the skeleton for you. Put the title into «Video title», list your main points one per line in the box below, and you get an opening paragraph, a chapter block built from those points, a call to action and a few hashtags. One caveat worth repeating: the minute markers are placeholders, and you must replace them with real ones or the chapters land in the wrong place. See also: add tags to go with this description, choose a headline for the video, paste in a transcript with the timestamps gone.
The tool only sees text — it has no idea how long the video runs or where each section begins, so the minutes are spaced evenly as a placeholder. Read the real ones off YouTube Studio while scrubbing through and paste them in. Skip that step and the player chapters point at the wrong moments, which is worse than having no chapters.
YouTube turns a list into chapters when the description has at least three timestamps, the first one is 00:00, each sits on its own line, and no chapter is shorter than ten seconds. They also have to run in ascending order. Break any of those rules and you just get plain clickable text, with no segments on the progress bar.
The hard limit is 5000 characters, but only about the first 150 show before the viewer taps «more». So the point of the video and its main search phrase belong in the first two lines, with chapters, links and hashtags below. The generated text is already ordered that way.
Only the first three matter — those are the ones displayed above the video title. Up to 15 are allowed, but go over the limit and YouTube ignores every one of them. Keep three to five genuinely relevant tags and drop the generic ones like #video, which take up prime space and return nothing.
It does not lift a video on its own, but it gives search the context it needs: the title and description are almost the only text YouTube has to work out what your video is about. Chapters also keep viewers who would otherwise leave when they cannot find the part they came for, and retention moves the needle far more than keywords.
Yes, type them into the finished text yourself — the generator does not insert links because it does not know your addresses. Note that links in descriptions only become clickable once the channel is verified, and if the video contains a paid promotion you must flag that separately in YouTube Studio.
