Instagram Hashtag Counter Online — Free

Hashtag sets live in notes apps and get copied from post to post, so the same tag ends up in the list twice and the total quietly creeps past thirty — at which point Instagram refuses the caption. Paste a full caption or a bare list of tags into the input box, press Generate, and the Result panel shows the total, the unique tags and the duplicates. Counting happens in the browser; nothing is uploaded. See also: strip invisible characters from a caption, find hashtags for a short video, lay the bio out over several lines.

How to use it

  1. Paste either the whole caption or just the tag list into the input box — both are recognised.
  2. Press Generate; the script picks up every word starting with a hash, Cyrillic tags included.
  3. Read the total and the unique count in the Result panel — the gap between them is your duplicates.
  4. Drop repeats and weak tags if the total is above thirty, then check again.
  5. Copy the final set into your caption and use Reset before the next check.

FAQ

How many hashtags can one Instagram post have?

Thirty in the caption. Above that the caption usually fails to save or the post will not publish at all. You can add a separate set in a comment, but that does not change the caption count, so the caption is what to check.

Are non-Latin hashtags counted?

Yes. Tags written in Cyrillic or any other script are counted exactly like Latin ones and share the same limit of thirty. Instagram allows letters but not spaces or most punctuation — a tag simply ends at the first such character.

How are duplicates detected?

The tool compares the tags and reports the total alongside the unique count. The difference is your repeats, which pile up when sets are stitched together from several saved notes. A repeat adds no reach and still consumes a slot.

Should I always use all thirty?

No — thirty is a ceiling, not a target. Eight to fifteen tags that genuinely describe the post usually beat a padded list topped up with generic tags like #viral, where the feed moves faster than your post can surface.

Does it count @mentions too?

No, the counter only handles hash tags. Account mentions have their own cap — around twenty per caption — and you have to count those by eye.

Can I check tags from a phone?

Yes. The input box scales to a mobile screen and a long press pastes a saved tag set from your notes. The result refreshes on Generate; you only need a connection to load the page itself.
